It is said that this hatchet was made in at the end of Edo period~Meiji period(1853~1921). And,It is also said the steel is English steel or Togo steel. There is Hamon(pattern) on the blade. It means the maker did 土置き(Tsuchioki) on the blade like making sword. The handle is Japanese oak with urushi coating. The bolster is hand forging. The case is very unique item that is made by 藤(Tou)group. Used ray(stingray)and shark skin. This case can be a fire starter kit(include steel knife,magnesium with stag, hemp tinder). This product is a valuable historical. |
